Football Tournament for Development- A Sensitisation and Education Project against HIV-AIDS and Malaria
Malaria and HIV-AIDS remain two main killer diseases in developing countries and for these reason has Hope Foundation so far initiated and implemented a number of projects in order to curb these illnesses. Malaria kills children every 30 seconds and HIV-AIDS keeps on spreading at a very rapid rate in a number of local communities. Children and women remain the main victims.
This placement is open for volunteers who intend to work in education and sensitisation programs where football shall be used as main educating tool to reach a cross section of the population. Football remains an absolutely crowd puller in Cameroon and we always to use our various tournaments to attract many people including youths, women and men, who subsequently gain important information on how to prevent and treat these illnesses.
Work:
Volunteers shall be involved in a very special sensitization and education campaign on HIV-AIDS and malaria. This project shall be centered on a football tournament which shall attract not only 120 football players but a crowd and population of up to 50,000 inhabitants. The target populations here are youths, men and women living in areas where these illnesses are very rampered.
Sex life among the inhabitants in many local communities is very reckless, careless and uncontrolled. Youths are exposed not only to sexually transmittable diseases but to HIV-AIDS as well.
On the other hand, malaria keeps on killing many children due to lack of adequate information as regards prevention, symptoms and treatment.
Volunteers shall help in organising the tournament, assist in house to house education, public talking, and the distribution of mosquito nets, condoms and information material such as flyers and leaflets.
Work shall be reserved from Monday to Friday, starting daily from 8am to 15pm. Weekends shall be reserved for sightseeing and other leisure activities which the volunteer will want to involve in.
Volunteer shall be accomodated with host families during their stay in Cameroon.
Interested volunteers can also involve themselves in our shoe distributing project in the local areas where they shall be working! www.shoeaid.org
