Lukas Burkhard a Swiss national took time off his work in the financial sector of his country to travel to Cameroon and work as a Hope Foundation Volunteer.
Lukas, 29, who had expressed his desire to teach children, was placed at Good Foundation Primary School Douala where he, the children and the school staff spent an enriching one month period. Lukas’ timetable during this period had him teach Mathematics, English Language, Nature Study and hygiene to the pupils of classes four, five and six. He also joyfully indulged in extra-curricular activities such as sports and music and this, to the delight of all the pupils of the school.
The school administration noticed an accrued interest of the kids in whatever subject or activity in which Lukas was involved. The school was so pleased and satisfied with this first experience with an expatriate volunteering staff that they will gladly welcome whosoever has the dynamism, flexibility, will and the smile to work with them in future. Lukas’ host family, who already miss him, also expressed their joy in having him with them during this period.
